Building Construction Projects Insights
The 756 building projects monitored for the month of January 2023 cover a total area of 184.06 million SqFt amounting to a total construction cost of INR 64,804 crores. Of these 756 projects, 298 are currently under construction and 458 are early-stage projects whose construction has not yet started. Among these projects, 421 are private projects and 335 are public projects.
457 new tenders were floated and duly tracked with a tender value of over INR 11,446 crores. The top and the most prominent tender issuers include Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Rural Development Department, Government of Jharkhand, and National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC).
Key Projects
Two mega projects under the residential category include Godrej Residential Group Housing in Gurgaon(Construction Cost – INR 2,500 crores) and Vasavi Sarovar, Sevalal Nagar in Telangana (Construction Cost – INR 1,955 crores; Construction Area – 55,86,356 SqFt). With 505 projects, residential projects were the most common, followed by educational, commercial, and healthcare building projects.
Industrial and Infrastructure Projects Insights
The 441 industrial projects monitored for the month of January 2023 amounting to a total construction cost of INR 66,629 crores. Among the states, Karnataka topped the industrial projects chart grossing 60 projects, followed by Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
In the road infrastructure category, there were 59 total projects entailing a construction cost of INR 44,962 crores. In terms of water infrastructure projects, 339 projects amounting to a total of INR 14,037 crores were tracked. Kerala attracted the highest number of water projects with 339 projects, followed by Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
Key Projects
The Vedanta Foxconn Semiconductor Chip & Display Manufacturing Facility, located in Dholera and covering an area of 20,00,000 SqFt, has been announced at an anticipated cost of INR 135,000 crore.
A tender worth INR 6,327 crore has been issued for the construction of a 3.5-kilometre-long tunnel from Orange Gate to Marine Drive, which will link the Coastal Road and Eastern Freeway and provide a direct connection from southern Mumbai to the Transharbour link. This link will serve as a fast gateway to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The only bidder for the global tender issued by the Karnataka Maritime Board for the development of an all-weather deep water greenfield port at Keni-Belekeri in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka is JSW Infrastructure Ltd, the port unit of the JSW Group led by Sajjan Jindal. The project will be executed on a design, build, finance, operate, transfer (DBFOT) model at a cost of INR 3000 crores.
