The ambitious Marine Superhighway project, valued at an estimated 26,000 INR-Crore, is finally moving forward after decades of delays. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recently performed the groundbreaking ceremony, for this project.
Running parallel to the existing Goa highway, this nearly 500 Km route will offer scenic views along the coast and Sahyadri terrains. The Marine Superhighway promises to decongest the Mumbai-Goa highway while providing quicker access to coastal towns and popular tourist attractions.

7 bridges over creeks & rivers
The seven bridges span approximately 27 Km in total. They connect various locations, boosting transportation and commerce.
- Dharamtar Creek in Karja: This steel bridge, which will span an anticipated 10.2 Km, reflects modern engineering brilliance.
- Kundlika Creek in Revdanda-Salav: A cable-stayed bridge will span around 3.8 Km, ensuring smooth passage across the creek.
- Agardanda Creek in Dighi Agardanda: This 4.3 Km cable-stayed structure will link vital coastal regions.
- Bankot Creek in Bagmandla Veshwi: A 1.7 Km bridge will be built using cable-stayed technology to enhance connectivity.
- Kelshi Bay in Kelshi: A 670 M box girder bridge will strengthen regional transport routes.
- Jaigad Creek: A 4.4 Km cable-stayed bridge will connect two major points across the creek.
- Kunkeshwar: A 1.6 Km cable-stayed bridge will complete the link, improving the route’s efficiency.
Designed as a 4-lane expressway, the Marine Superhighway will connect all sea cities in the Konkan region. Inspired by California’s Pacific Highway, it aims to create a seamless and scenic journey along India’s western coast.
