The Center has approved an estimated 770.25 INR-Crore to widen and upgrade the NH-717A in West Bengal and Sikkim. This move marks a significant step toward improving regional connectivity and road safety.
Authorities will widen the highway into a 2-lane road with paved shoulders. The project will cover approximately 23.717 Km in total. Of this, 18.42 Km will stretch from Lavamore to the beginning of the Pedong Bypass in Kalimpong, West Bengal. Additionally, around 5.297 Km will span from Reshi to Rhenock in Sikkim.

Furthermore, officials will carry out slope protection works along the Bagrakot-Kafer stretch in Kalimpong. To ensure lasting stability, authorities will use modern technologies such as Self-Drilling Anchors and Gabion structures. These advanced tools will reinforce NH-717A and provide better durability under tough weather conditions.
