The Punjab state government is set to establish a high-security jail, with a capacity of over 300 inmates, at a cost of INR 100 crore. This will be one of the six such jails to be built across the country.
The government has identified around 50 acres of land for the jail complex in the Ludhiana district, far from urban areas. The project will be funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
To ensure maximum security, the jail will feature individual cells for each inmate, equipped with the latest CCTV equipment to monitor their movements. Advanced equipment such as mobile jammers, and body and luggage scanners will be installed to check visitors, jail personnel, and inmates entering the jail.
