The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has named the upcoming six-lane greenfield expressway from Varanasi to Kolkata as NH319B. This expressway will connect four districts each in Bihar and Jharkhand before entering West Bengal through Purulia district.
Once the NHAI assigns a distinctive identity to the expressway, the process of land acquisition will be expedited. The expressway will commence from Varanasi and enter Bihar at Chand, bordering Chaudali in Uttar Pradesh (UP). It will cover a distance of approximately 160 km before exiting at Imamganj in Gaya.
The cost of constructing this expressway is estimated to be INR 35,000 crore. After passing through Hazaribag and Ramgarh in Jharkhand, it will enter West Bengal’s Purulia district. The Jharkhand RCD will connect the expressway with Ranchi’s ring road, further enhancing connectivity.
Moreover, the expressway is expected to boost trade activities in Bihar, as it will link to the upcoming logistics park in Gaya.
