Bhubaneswar Cabinet gives green signal to INR 5,929 Crore Metro project

Bhubaneswar cabinet, on November 14, approved the proposal for the construction of phase I of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project (BMRC) at an estimated construction cost of 5929.38 INR-Crore. DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) will be the turn-key consultant for this project.

The proposed metro line will be 26 km long and run from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Trisulia Square near Cuttack. It will have 20 stations, including Capital Hospital, Rajmahal Square, Vani Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar, and Patia amongst others. The project is scheduled to be completed within four years of commencement.

The railway track for the proposed project will run along the existing roads or above the median with no requirement for additional land acquisition. BMRC aims to develop the Cuttack-Puri-Bhubaneswar triangle as a Greater Capital Region Metropolitan City, as well as facilitate comfortable, convenient, and safer transportation for passengers through this project. 

The Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by DMRC on October 7 this year and will lay the foundation stone on January 1, 2024.
