Thermax, the largest biomass-based green energy solutions provider, through its subsidiary, has secured an order to set up five bio-CNG plants across the country, worth an estimated investment of INR 500 Crore. Thermax made this announcement on Tuesday, December 11, during the 4-day-long Thermax Fest in Pune.
The proposed plants will be developed in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, and produce 110 TPD (tonnes per day) of bio-CNG. These plants will utilize local feedstock (exceeding 1,000 TPD), including rice straw, Napier grass, cane trash, and soya trash.
The bio-CNG generated from these plants will be utilized for commercial and captive use. Additionally, the company has invested in a biomass-sourcing supply chain to ensure a consistent biomass fuel supply.

As part of its clean energy initiative, Thermax will also install 1 GW of hybrid renewable energy solutions by FY 2027. These will be intra-state and inter-state projects. The company currently manages an operational portfolio of 140 MWp, with an additional 145 MWp under construction, nearly 300 MW in development, and 400 MW in pipeline.
Moreover, Thermax aims to develop gasification plants with carbon capture capabilities to process coal ranging from 100 to 500 TPD.
