Prime Minister Modi to lay the foundation stone for the Ministry of Coal‘s largest thermal power project, NLC Talabira Thermal Power Project, today, February 03. The ultra-supercritical thermal power project will be developed by NLC India Ltd at Talabira in Jharsuguda district, Odisha.
The upcoming project will be developed over an anticipated 1695 Acres of land parcel and will see an estimated investment of INR 27,212 Crore (INR 18,255 Crore main plan EPC contract awarded to BHEL- Bharat Heavy Electronics Ltd). It will have a generation capacity of 3200 MW (4X800 MW) and will be developed in a phased manner.

Phase I of the NLC Talabira Thermal Power Project will have 3X800 MW capacity and will be fueled by coal from Talabira II and III OCP. Phase II will see an addition of 1X800 MW capacity installed at the same location. These units are anticipated to be commissioned in FY28-29.
The project will supply power to Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. With its compact design and higher efficiency, it will include features such as an ash disposal system, emission control, steam generator technology, and solid waste management.
