Construction for longest tunnel in Dimapur-Kohima New Rail Line Project begins

The construction for Portal 1 of Tunnel no 7, the longest tunnel on the Dimapur-Kohima rail line in the Tsiepama Village of Dimapur district, Nagaland has started. The length of the tunnel is 6,610 meters with an approach road of approximately 12 Km already in place.

The Dimapur-Kohima rail line project is being developed at an estimated cost of INR 6,663 Crore and includes eight new stations, 27 major bridges, 148 minor bridges, five road over bridges, 15 road under bridges, and 21 tunnels covering 31 Km.

The 16.5 Km section from Dhansiri to Shokuvi was already commissioned in October 2021. The project, post-completion is poised to facilitate the transportation of essential commodities like food grains, petroleum products, automobiles, and various infrastructure and construction materials to Nagaland at a significantly reduced cost.
