Balrampur Chini announces INR 2,000 Crore capex in India’s first industrial bioplastic plant

Leading integrated sugar mills company Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd (BCML), on Tuesday, February 19, announced an estimated investment of INR 2,000 Crore towards setting up India’s first integrated Industrial Bioplastic Plant. The project will propel India towards net zero emissions by 2070.

The proposed Polylactic Acid (PLA) Manufacturing Factory will have a capacity on a global scale of 75,000 tonnes per annum (TPA). The state-of-the-art facility will be developed on greenfield land and is anticipated to be completed within 30 months of commencement. The company is currently in the process of finalising land for the project beside an existing sugar plant.

PLA provides a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics, supporting Balrampur Chini’s eco-friendly initiatives and advancing its business model towards sustainability. The upcoming project aims to lead the way in reducing carbon emissions and promoting innovation in plastic production, said Vivek Saraogi, CMD of Balrampur Chini.
