ReNew Energy Global Plc signed an initial agreement with Japan’s largest power generation company – JERA Co Inc, to jointly develop a green ammonia production project in Odisha. On Thursday, April 18, ReNew announced that the upcoming project would be developed in Odisha’s Paradip.
Under the agreement, ReNew’s subsidiary, ReNew E-Fuels Pvt Ltd will develop this project from basic design through detailed design for the production of ammonia. It will use nearly 500 MW of high capacity utilization factor (CUF) renewable energy. The green hydrogen produced from this will be used as a raw material to produce approximately 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually.

JERA will have the right to offtake the green ammonia for Japan. ReNew will conduct a joint study to evaluate the commercial viability of the project. This collaboration marks an exciting time for both ReNew and JERA, and demonstrates the companies’ commitment to accelerating the clean-energy transition, said Sumant Sinha, founder, chairman & CEO of ReNew.
