The Coimbatore International Airport has proposed to construct a new domestic departure building with swankier interiors. The new building is expected to decongest the existing terminal building which includes departure and arrival terminals.
The airport authorities recently submitted a proposal to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority about their decision to construct a new domestic departure terminal on the eastern side of the campus.
The terminal would be constructed in an area of 10,000 sq ft with a cost of around Rs 125 crore. “The new terminal will be incorporated with the latest technology, including inline baggage handling system. It will have swanky interiors with many art works,” an airport official said.
The construction work is expected to be completed within 36 months from awarding of the contract to the selected bidder. Authorities hope that the terminal would be ready by 2021-end.
