Assam to set up new IIM Kamrup after Centre’s nod

Assam is set to establish a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the Kamrup district near Guwahati. The Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Sunday, June 2, that the Ministry of Education has given in-principle approval for the project.

The upcoming IIM Kamrup will be located on a plot measuring 76.8332 hectares at Marabhita in Kamrup district. The prestigious IIM Ahmedabad will serve as the mentor institute and will also prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the institute.

The state government had submitted a proposal to construct IIM Kamrup in May 2022. It has agreed to provide 574 bigha land (free of cost) for this project. The new institute is expected to significantly boost higher education in Assam. It will further strengthen the state’s position as an education hub in Eastern India.
