JN Port Authority to build INR 285 Crore agricultural processing facility

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has received approval from the Union government to establish an agricultural processing facility, a first in India. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways granted the approval on Friday, July 19. The estimated cost of this project is INR 285 Crore.

Spanning approximately 27 Acres, this agricultural processing facility will offer comprehensive services, including processing, sorting, packing, and laboratory facilities. It will serve not only Maharashtra but also Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Additionally, It will be built on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Transfer (DBFOT) model.

The project will be awarded to a private firm for a concession period of 30 years, including a 1.5-year construction period. It will handle 0.8 Million to 1.2 Million Metric tonnes (MMT) of agricultural cargo over 30 years. Furthermore, the proposed agricultural processing facility will provide comprehensive services, ensuring compliance with food safety and trade regulations. It aims to enhance operational efficiency and yield substantial cost savings within the supply chain.
