Overview:

In the North Zone, significant developments during FY 2023-24 include major highway projects and strategic improvements to boost regional connectivity. The zone saw significant projects like the Delhi-Amritsar-Katihar Expressway, designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve trade efficiency. States such as Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh saw focused improvements to stimulate economic growth, while Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand emphasized on addressing hilly terrain challenges to enhance accessibility. Major cities including Delhi, Chandigarh, and Jaipur also received upgrades to reduce congestion and improve urban mobility.

The Northeast Zone, facing unique challenges and opportunities in developing its road infrastructure, focused on enhancing accessibility and integrating remote areas. This zone has experienced substantial progress, with 9,984 km of National Highways constructed over the past decade at an expenditure of INR 1,07,504 Crore. Key initiatives like SARDP-NE (Special Accelerated Road Development Programme, NorthEast), NHDP Phase-III, Bharatmala Pariyojna, and the Trans-Arunachal Highway have significantly shaped the region’s road infrastructure, improving connectivity across remote and strategic areas.

Meanwhile, the East Zone, in its Roads & Highways sector, during FY 2023-24, focused on improving regional connectivity and supporting economic growth. The National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) supported the East Zone with about INR 28,000 Crore for road and highway development, focusing on infrastructure upgrades and new projects. Additionally, INR 4,000 Crore was specifically allocated to enhance state highways in Bihar, aiming to improve both rural and urban road networks. The zone’s diverse landscape posed unique challenges, with projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure resilience and promoting integration.

A. NORTH ZONE

Construction Projects in the North Zone

In the last financial year, Biltrax tracked nearly 87 Roads & Highways projects in the North Zone through its BX-2 platform, with an estimated construction cost of INR 44,813 Crore.

Of the total projects tracked by BX-2 in the North Zone during FY 2023-24, Uttar Pradesh stands out with the highest construction value. The state undertook 50 projects with a combined construction cost of INR 29,931 Crore, accounting for 66.79% of the total in the region. These projects include developing new roadways, constructing underpasses and bridges, expanding existing roads, and enhancing road infrastructure. 

Out of 87 Roads & Highways projects, 60 alone were new constructions covering over 2,041 km at INR 38,039 Crore. The remaining projects focused on upgrading existing road segments and minor structural enhancements.

This represents nearly 16.01% of the total construction value. SRM Contractors Pvt Ltd and L N Malviya Infra Pvt Ltd follow in the second and third ranks, respectively. These firms are delivering projects worth INR 962 Crore and INR 764 Crore, respectively.

B. NORTHEAST ZONE

Construction Projects in the Northeast Zone

In the last financial year, Biltrax tracked nearly 55 Roads & Highways projects in the Northeast Zone through its BX-2 platform, with an estimated construction cost of INR 21,554 Crore.

Of the total projects tracked by BX-2 in the Northeast Zone during FY 2023-24, Assam stands out with the highest construction value. The state undertook 33 projects with a combined construction cost of INR 14,194 Crore, accounting for 65.85% of the total in the region. These projects include developing new roadways, construction of underpasses and bridges, expansion of existing roads, and enhancement of road infrastructure.

Out of 55 Roads & Highways projects, 35 alone were new constructions covering over 981 km at INR 17,782 Crore. The remaining projects focused on upgrading existing road segments and minor structural enhancements.

C. EAST ZONE

Construction Projects in the East Zone

In FY 2023-24, Biltrax tracked nearly 54 Roads & Highways projects in the East Zone through its BX-2 platform, with an estimated construction cost of INR 26,628 Crore.

Of the total projects tracked by BX-2 in the East Zone during FY 2023-24, Bihar stands out with the highest construction value. The state undertook 20 projects with a combined construction cost of INR 9,076 Crore, accounting for 34.08% of the total in the region. These projects include developing new roadways, construction of underpasses and bridges, expansion of existing roads, and enhancement of road infrastructure.

Out of 54 Roads & Highways projects, 33 projects alone included new constructions covering over 866 km at INR 21,731 Crore. The remaining projects focused on upgrading existing road segments and minor structural enhancements.
