THDC India Ltd will invest an estimated 33,600 INR-Crore to develop six pumped storage projects in Maharashtra. The combined capacity of these projects will be 6,790 MW.
On Tuesday, September 3, THDC India signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra’s Department of Water Resources to advance these projects. The agreement includes the development of the following pumped storage projects:
- Malshej Ghat: 700 MW
- Aruna: 1,950 MW
- Kharari: 1,250 MW
- Humbarli Birmani: 1,000 MW
- Aruna Kolamb: 1,200 MW
- Morawadi Majarewadi: 690 MW

As part of the collaboration, Maharashtra will facilitate the water allocation process necessary for the projects. Meanwhile, THDC is preparing detailed project reports (DPR) for each facility. According to RK Vishnoi, chairman and managing director of THDC India, this move underscores the company’s commitment to the nation’s energy future.
