The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the construction of the Kikvi dam, a significant project costing approximately 1,400 INR-Crore. Located in Brahmanwade village, this dam is essential for meeting the drinking water needs of Nashik city residents.

The Kikvi dam will store nearly 2.1 TMC of water, providing a reliable supply as the city’s population continues to increase. With the government’s approval, construction will commence on 738 Hectares, of which 174 Hectares have already been allocated from the forest department.

The Kikvi dam is further essential due to the Gangapur dam’s reduced storage capacity from silt buildup, ensuring adequate drinking water. Originally sanctioned in 2009, the project encountered challenges, including a high court ruling on water storage limits. After receiving environmental clearance in 2014, it was included in the Godavari water plan in 2017.
