Union Tourism Ministry okays 170 INR-Crore projects in Tamil Nadu

The Union Tourism Ministry has allocated an estimated 170 INR-Crore to strengthen Tamil Nadu tourism through two key projects. These initiatives, funded under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure, aim to boost infrastructure while generating 5,000 jobs. 

The Nandavanam Heritage Park in Mamallapuram has received around 100 INR-Crore to transform the town into a global tourism hub. The project will skillfully blend modern amenities with Mamallapuram’s natural charm and cultural richness. It will feature Cholai Vanam, a vast garden park; Viharam, a cultural activity zone; and Maidanam, an open arena for events.

Meanwhile, an estimated 70 INR-Crore has been allocated for the Garden of Flowers in Devala, Ooty. Furthermore, two Public-Private Partnership Projects (PPP) projects worth an estimated 115 INR-Crore will enhance the offering, creating another 2,500 jobs. The project will feature a ropeway across the valley and camping tents on hilltops.

Moreover, 14 PPP projects worth an estimated 574 INR-Crore will further elevate Tamil Nadu tourism in Mamallapuram. These developments include retail shops, food courts, wellness retreats, and event spaces. Plans also involve light-and-sound shows, adventure sports, eco-friendly huts, and heritage beach resorts. Together, these initiatives will generate around 2,500 jobs.
