The Union Government has approved the establishment of four battery storage power plants in Andhra Pradesh. This move aims to enhance the state’s energy infrastructure and support renewable energy projects.

The projects, with a combined capacity of 1000 MW, will be set up in four different locations. The first plant, with a capacity of 400 MW, will be located in Mylavaram, in the YSR district. This plant will be synchronized with an upcoming 750 MW solar project.

Another 400 MW plant will be established in Gani village, Kurnool district, where a new solar park is proposed. Additionally, a 100 MW plant will be set up in Kuppam constituency. This project aims to make the entire constituency solar-reliant.

The fourth plant, also with a capacity of 100 MW, will be located near the Godavari Gas Power Project (GGPL) to manage power fluctuations. The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) will oversee the implementation of these projects. Meanwhile, the total cost of these projects is estimated at 5,200 INR-Crore. The upcoming battery storage power plants in Andhra will help reduce power charges on the open market, especially during peak hours.
