Balrampur Chini Mills plans to establish a biopolymer facility at Kumbhi, Uttar Pradesh, with an estimated investment of 2,850 INR-Crore. This project will mark India’s first large-scale industrial unit for biopolymer manufacturing, setting a new standard in sustainable production.
Designed to produce 80,000 Tonnes annually, the biopolymer facility will create fully compostable, bio-based PLA. This versatile material will replace banned single-use plastic (SUP) items, including straws, disposable cutlery, food trays, bottles, curd cups, and carry bags.

The biopolymer facility will rely entirely on 100% renewable energy, ensuring an eco-friendly manufacturing process. It will be the first site to convert sugarcane into PLA within a single, integrated unit. This closed-loop system will highlight true sustainability while minimizing environmental impact.
The project will generate around 225 direct jobs in manufacturing, R&D, and operations. Additionally, it will generate over 2,000 indirect employment opportunities across the supply chain. By strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s industrial economy, this biopolymer facility will position the state as a key player in global biopolymer production and exports.
