Construction under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project has already begun on 6.5 Acres of railway land. Developers have started work on railway offices in phase I, ensuring their timely handover. As part of the agreement, they will also deliver four 36-storeyed staff quarters to the railways. Additionally, authorities plan to rehabilitate 5,000 squatters currently residing on railway land.
The project will include 15,000 to 20,000 tenements on railway land. While eligible slum dwellers will receive free housing, authorities will resettle 5,000 families from authorized buildings in this area. Meanwhile, the rest will benefit from in-situ rehabilitation within Dharavi itself.
