The Andhra Pradesh Government has announced a greenfield semi-ring road project to enhance connectivity across Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram districts. Spanning approximately 90 Km from Rambilli to Bhogapuram, the access-controlled highway aims to complement the existing six-lane road between Anakapalli and Anandapuram.
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is overseeing the initiative and has issued a request for proposal to appoint a technical consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR). The consultant will conduct a feasibility study to assess traffic projections and determine the need for a greenfield alignment. If selected, the alignment will support an initial four-lane carriageway with provisions for expansion to eight lanes. Additionally, the right of way will accommodate service roads, each at least 10 meters wide, in inhabited areas. The DPR will detail costs, financial viability, land requirements, and route options. Furthermore, the project ensures maximum access control for the main highway while reserving median space for future growth.

Meanwhile, the proposed greenfield route will pass west of the existing national highway, connecting key areas like Kothavalasa and supporting developments such as a naval base in Rambilli and an international airport in Bhogapuram. The state government will make the final decision based on the DPR.
