IIT Bhilai set for major expansion with 1,400 INR-Crore plan

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai is set for a significant expansion. The Central Government has approved an estimated 1,400 INR-Crore plan to increase student intake and enhance infrastructure.

The IIT Bhilai expansion will add 1,500 seats, raising the total to 2,750. This move aims to accommodate more students and improve academic facilities. The expansion forms stage B of Phase I of the long-term development. This stage includes developing new engineering and science departments, advanced laboratories, and additional hostels. A 15,000 SqM research park will also be established. This will further foster innovation and industry collaboration.

Once completed, the campus will support 12,000 students, 1,200 faculty members, and 1,320 staff. The IIT Bhilai expansion will introduce cutting-edge technology and double the laboratory equipment. Meanwhile, the research park will support startups and MSMEs, driving economic growth. This initiative strengthens IIT Bhilai’s role in technical education and research.
