On Wednesday, September 4, Air India announced the commencement of its planned Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Bengaluru International Airport. Spread over an anticipated 35 Acres of land parcel, this project involves an initial investment of around 1,400 INR-Crore.
The state-of-the-art Air India MRO facility in Bengaluru will feature 12 hangar bays, capable of handling both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft. Additionally, this facility will be equipped with advanced aircraft maintenance technology, such as overhead tele platforms, cranes, and the largest vertical lift hangar doors in India.

The new Air India MRO facility will generate around 1,200 direct and indirect jobs for skilled aviation engineers. By early 2026, the facility will be fully operational. Moreover, it aims to support over 200 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Karnataka, strengthening the local supply chain. Additionally, Air India plans to construct a new wide-body hangar in Delhi to meet line maintenance needs at major airports across the country.
