The Andhra Pradesh Government has moved forward to tackle the region’s persistent water crisis by inviting tenders for the Godavari Water Grid Project. Work on two major projects in Vijjeswaram and Dowleswaram, worth an estimated 3,050 INR-Crore, will begin in April, with tenders already finalized.

Authorities have identified four sites for the Godavari Water Grid Project. The 1,650 INR-Crore Dowleswaram project will provide safe drinking water to 1,713 habitations across Rajamahendravaram Rural, Kadiyam, Biccavolu, and Anaparthy mandals. Additionally, it will cater to parts of Kakinada and Konaseema districts, ensuring a reliable water supply.

Meanwhile, the Vijjeswaram project, with an estimated investment of 1,400 INR-Crore, will benefit Undrajavaram, Peravali, Chagallu, Kovvur, and Tallapudi mandals. Several areas in the erstwhile West Godavari district will also receive improved water access under this initiative.

Authorities have also proposed two additional projects along the Polavaram right and left banks, valued at an estimated 450 INR-Crore and 750 INR-Crore, respectively. These will support water needs in Gopalapuram, Devarapalli, and Gokavaram mandals. However, both projects still require approvals from the Central and State governments. The Godavari Water Grid Project promises to be a transformative effort, ensuring long-term water security for the region.
