Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on Monday, December 04, announced that TDK (Apple’s iPhone-making vendor), will set up its lithium-ion battery plant in Haryana. The facility will develop cells for batteries that will be used in “MadeInIndia” iPhones.
The proposed facility will be developed over approximately 180 acres of land parcel in Manesar, Haryana, with an estimated construction cost of 6,000 – 7,000 INR Crore. It will be developed in a phased manner. Currently, TDK is awaiting environmental clearance to start production.

The new lithium-ion battery plant is envisaged to enhance local value addition to Apple‘s products by locally producing lithium-ion battery cells. It will generate nearly 7,000-8,000 new job opportunities.
