Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel to consider Gadchiroli as the potential site for its proposed INR 40,000 Crore green steel plant in Maharashtra. The company, initially eyeing Ratnagiri district, is in ongoing discussions with the state government to finalize the project’s location.
The proposed green steel plant will have a generation capacity of 6 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) and is anticipated to create 20,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel signed the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Maharashtra Government for the project on Monday, January 29. It aims to produce green steel which is made using hydrogen instead of coal, reducing carbon emissions.

The CM also informed that the state government has signed MoUs with seven major companies worth an estimated INR 2.70 Crore towards green hydrogen projects. These projects will have a combined capacity of 910 KTPA (kilo tonnes per annum) and are anticipated to generate 64,000 job opportunities.
