Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) will set up its new manufacturing plant in Sathya Sai district in Rayalaseema region. BEL is one of the important electronic companies of the country and produces a wide range of goods, many of which are crucial to the defence industry.
Manufacturing unit at Palasamudram in Sathya Sai district:
Addressing a press conference held on Sunday, 18th December 2022 in Vijayawada, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) director Dr. P Parthasarathi said the Investment committee of BEL decided to release INR 384 crore for construction of the first phase of the unit at Sathya Sai district.
The plant, which is being built at Palasamudram on a 914-acre plot of land, will produce missiles and radar testing equipment.
BEL was established in 1956 with the aim of manufacturing a product in Bengaluru that had previously been imported from France. The company is now working on 350 products to meet the demands of the nation’s defence industry.
Of the 350 products being manufactured by BEL, around 50% are developed by DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organisation) and the remaining by BEL itself.
The Machilipatnam facility is in charge of producing night vision equipment for the military. Due to the huge demand for night vision lenses, the government is now proposing to construct another facility in Krishna district.
