The Union Cabinet has approved a greenfield high-speed corridor connecting Mawlyngkhung in Meghalaya to Panchgram in Assam. Valued at an estimated 22,864 INR-Crore, this 166.80 Km highway will enhance connectivity across Northeast India, fostering economic growth and development.
Spanning 144.80 km in Meghalaya and 22 km in Assam, the four-lane, access-controlled corridor is designed for efficient passenger and freight transport. The project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). It will reduce travel time between Shillong and Silchar from 8.5 hours to just 5 hours, easing congestion on the existing NH-06.

The greenfield high-speed corridor aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. It integrates with major routes like NH-27 and NH-106. It will also boost industrial growth in Meghalaya’s cement and coal hubs and promote tourism by improving access to scenic destinations.
