Cabinet clears 3,706 INR-Crore semiconductor plant in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh

The Union Cabinet has approved an estimated 3,706 INR-Crore semiconductor unit in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. This marks the country’s sixth such facility. A joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, the plant strengthens India’s push to become a global semiconductor hub.

Set to begin production in 2027, the upcoming semiconductor unit in Uttar Pradesh will manufacture display driver chips. These chips will serve mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, and PCs. The facility is designed to produce 20,000 wafers per month. Additionally, its output capacity will reach 36 million units monthly. This scale underscores India’s ambition to meet growing global demand for semiconductors.

Meanwhile, five other semiconductor units are under advanced construction. These projects highlight India’s strategic focus on this vital sector.
