Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the sanction of an estimated 1,060.2 INR-Crore for upgrading the Bhoma-Old Goa road into a four-lane stretch. This 7 Km transformation aims to reduce heavy congestion in Bhoma, Corlim, and Ella. Furthermore, it will address issues caused by limited right-of-way in these densely populated zones.

The highway, earlier known as NH 4-A, runs approximately 153 Km from NH 48 near Belagavi in Karnataka to NH 66 near Panaji, Goa. It forms a critical link for passenger and freight traffic moving from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka to Goa. With this development, the entire Panaji-Khandepar corridor will feature four lanes with paved shoulders.

Furthermore, two elevated corridors spanning around 4.2 Km have been planned to further reduce congestion. Additionally, 7 M wide service roads on both sides will enhance vehicular movement and access. In the long run, the upgraded Bhoma-Old Goa road will uplift Goa’s transport landscape.
