CM Naveen Approves DPR For Bhubaneswar Metro, To Lay Foundation Stone On Jan 1, 2024

On Saturday, October 07, the government announced that the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik will lay the foundation stone of the Bhubaneswar Metro project on January 1. The estimated deadline for completing the first phase is 4 years with a total cost of 5929 INR-Crore (fully borne by the state government).

A fully owned state government company named Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has been formed to oversee the construction. The first phase of the 26 km connecting Trisulia Square and Bhubaneswar Airport will run along the side of the existing roads with 20 stations covering important places like Nandamkanan, KIIT Square, Ram Mandir, Capital Hospital, etc.

The government has provided a supplementary budget of 210 INR crore for the project for the current year. With the intention to solve the decongestion of main roads and maximize the number of daily commuters, this project promises to turn Bhubaneswar into a top livable city in India.
