Corning lays foundation stone for a facility worth INR 1,000 Crore in Chennai

Corning, on Tuesday, June 25, laid the foundation stone for its new facility named Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies (BIG Tech) in Chennai. The manufacturing facility will see an estimated investment of INR 1,000 Crore and produce front cover glass for smartphones. 

The upcoming facility will be situated in the SIPCOT Pillaipakkam industrial park in Sriperumbudur, an electronics hub near Chennai. Corning has launched BIG Tech in a partnership with Optiemus Infracom. It will be India’s inaugural facility to manufacture finished glass cover parts for mobiles.

The first phase will target an initial 30 million pieces. This new facility of Corning is slated to commence by the second half of 2025. Moreover, the facility will create nearly 500 job opportunities initially and scale up based on demand. It also aims to meet the increasing demand for smartphone components in India amid rising exports.
