Delhi Jal Board will start work on an estimated 300 INR-Crore water pipeline project under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). The board approved this initiative during its recent meeting. The project promises to tackle irregular water supply issues across the capital.
The plan includes laying an 11 Km long pipeline from the Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to the Wazirabad barrage. This pipeline will serve as a backup when ammonia levels in the Yamuna River go beyond what can be treated. The pipeline, 2,400 mm in diameter, will carry water from Haiderpur WTP.

Currently, the CLC supplies 680 cusecs of raw water to several treatment plants in Delhi. This new pipeline project by the Delhi Jal Board will reduce reliance on Wazirabad-sourced water and help keep plants like Wazirabad and Chandrawal running smoothly.
To support the project further, authorities have started desilting work at the Wazirabad plant. This will help double the plant’s storage capacity in the next one to one-and-a-half months. Overall, the water pipeline project is expected to finish in two years and will improve Delhi’s water supply infrastructure.
