The Drinking Water and Sanitation Department (DWSD), government of Jharkhand, proposed a water supply scheme at Khunti district. Large sections of Jharkhand do not have access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Sanitation coverage in rural areas is very low. Only about 30% of Jharkhand has access to partial facilities with potable drinking water. A large segment of the population in Jharkhand has no access to safe drinking water. This is because the primary water sources contain fluoride, arsenic and iron. State sanctioned government programs such as Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP), Swajaldhara, and Total Sanitation Campaign launched in the past serve the rural population with water and sanitation related services.

DWSD water supply scheme proposes supplying water to Sindari, Purnanagar, Norhi, and their adjoining villages on a turnkey basis. The DWSD office’s Khunti division will carry the scheme out. The department will prepare a detailed survey and design the water supply pipe network. It will prepare the required drawings. As a part of works, it will undertake the construction of an R.C.C. intake well and pump house, and an R.C.C. gang way. A 2.25 MLD capacity water treatment plant, and several ESR with multiple capacities are also a part of work.
The department will also construct staff quarters, a compound wall, supplying and laying raw or clear water rising main and distribution network, providing house connections, supplying and installing of a VT and centrifugal pump motor, constructing a weir or check dam on the Karkari river. This dam will be 90 m in length and 1.5 m in height. The department will also be responsible for the operations and maintenance of these allied works for five years.
