Modernization of Cochin fishing harbor: Foundation stone laid for project worth INR 169 Cr.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Parshottam Rupala jointly initiated the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Modernisation and Upgradation Works of Cochin Fishing Harbour in Thoppumpady, Kerala. 

The estimated cost of this project is INR 169.17 Crore. The funding for the overall project comes from Grants provided by the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) Scheme under the Department of Fisheries, with an allocation of INR 50 Crores.

The first phase of the project will involve constructing three air-conditioned Auction Halls, one non-air-conditioned hall, one fish dressing unit, and various ancillary units. Additionally, the project includes the development of internal roads, loading and unloading platforms, a waste management area, canteen facilities, a drivers’ waiting area, dredging work, and the provision of machinery and equipment.
