French aerospace giant Safran is gearing up to establish one of its largest aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Hyderabad. The facility, occupying 23.5 acres with a built-up area of 36,500 SqFt, will be situated in the SEZ area of GMR Aerospace & Industrial Park. It is designed to have the capacity to service 300 engines per annum by the year 2035.
Construction work on the facility is scheduled to begin in September of this year, and it is projected to be handed over by December 2024. The operations are set to commence in 2025, creating around 1000 job opportunities at its peak operational capacity. GMR Hyderabad Aviation SEZ Limited (GHASL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), has already concluded a land lease agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines Services India Pvt Ltd (SAESIPL). The agreement pertains to the construction and operation of engine MRO facilities dedicated to Safran’s LEAP turbofan engines.
