During the last budget meeting, chaired by Sports Development Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, DMK Government announced the construction of a Global Sports City in Semmancheri, Chennai. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is currently finalizing the site. A detailed report on the project will be presented soon.
CMDA has floated tenders inviting the candidates to prepare the techno-economic feasibility report for the project. The estimated tender budget is 500 INR-Crores. The proposed construction area is 105 Acres.

The Sports City is envisioned to be a place where regional, national, and international tournaments can be held. It will have world-class sporting infrastructure for athletes across the country to train.
The proposed complex has amenities such as a large open-air stadium, multiple football grounds, Athletic tracks, an Olympic-size swimming pool, Velodrome (a stadium with banked cycle-racing tracks), etc. The estimated deadline for the completion of this project is 2-3 years.
