Greater Chennai Corporation to set up INR 185 Crore Bio Park at Perungudi dump yard

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to build a bio-diversity park project worth an estimated INR 185 Crore at the Perungudi dumpyard over an anticipated 93 Acres of land parcel (reclaimed from the 225-acre legacy landfill). The corporation unveiled the design and features of the project on Monday, February 05, during the stakeholder’s meeting.

The eco-park will feature multiple facilities including gazebos, an education center, bird-watching towers, an entrance plaza, water retention ponds, walking areas, and toilet blocks. It will house various mangroves, trees, plants, and shrubs creating a green ecosystem. Moreover, the facility will have six interconnected water retention ponds (capacity to hold more than 18 lakh litres of water) in addition to the primary pond with a capacity of 12 lakh litres.

Of the total 93 Acres of land, nearly 62% (58.15 Acres) will be a dedicated green zone, 25.5% (23.8 Acres) of land will be reserved as a water zone, while the remaining land will have buildings, roads & pathways, seating arrangements, etc.
