In the recent budget announced on Thursday, July 25, Telangana Government has allocated an estimated INR 1,100 Crore for the next phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail. Notably, INR 100 Crore will be dedicated to extending the metro to the international airport at Shamshabad. Meanwhile, INR 500 Crore will be allocated for extending the metro line into the Old City. It will cover the stretch from MGBS to Falaknuma, and continuing to Chandrayanagutta.
The first phase covered nearly 70 Km in three corridors. The government has re-examined and modified the second phase proposals. Consequently, they plan to develop 78.4 Km of five extended corridors with an estimated outlay of INR 24,042 Crore. This extension will connect Old City to Shamshabad Airport and extend the present corridors from Nagole to LB Nagar.

Moreover, the Deputy Chief Minister announced the development of Nagole, LB Nagar, and Chandrayanagutta as interchange stations. The budget also allocated INR 50 Crore for the MMTS phase two. The government, in collaboration with South Central Railway (SCR), will share the total project cost of about INR 1,150 Crore. SCR, having spent about INR 580 Crore, recently opened new suburban lines towards Umdanagar near Shamshabad and Medchal. The expansion of Hyderabad Metro rail will transform the city’s connectivity and infrastructure.
