Indian Railways to revamp Surat Railway Station into a Multi-Modal Transport hub

About the Project:

The Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC), Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), in a joint venture, have decided to undertake the development of Multi-Modal Transportation Hub (MMTH) at Surat, Gujarat on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Transfer (DBFOT) basis. For the implementation of the project, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) named ‘Surat Integrated Transportation Company (SITCO)’ has been formed.

Salient features of the Surat railway station multi-modal transport hub

  • Modernized railway station (on both, east side and in the west side)
  • Bus terminal
  • Modular passenger-friendly concourse
  • Wide station lobby
  • A big ticketing hall
  • New train platforms and boarding areas connecting bridges
  • Airport-style retail areas and food plazas
  • Retail and commercial office spaces in the complex towers.

In addition to these, the Multi-Modal Transportation Hub will also be linked to Surat Metro, Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and suburban network.

The estimated cost of the project has been reduced from Rs 1,008 crore to an amount of Rs 895 crore. On February 2019, RFQ had been floated for the development of the Multi-Modal Transportation Hub at Surat on DBFOT Basis while the bid opening will be held on September 2019.
