The Indian semiconductor industry is experiencing remarkable growth, driven by exploding demand for smartphone innovations, automotive technologies, and data storage. To address this rising demand and propel technological advancements, the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has taken significant steps. It has successfully attracted leading semiconductor companies in India and worldwide to invest in the nation’s chip manufacturing sector. These include major companies such as AMD, Applied Materials, and Micron Technology, to establish advanced semiconductor facilities in the country. With the Indian semiconductor business projected to surpass USD 55 Billion by 2026, the country is poised to become a significant player in the global semiconductor manufacturing industry.
Semicon India 2024: Catalyzing India’s Semiconductor Ambitions
Semicon India 2024, the inaugural edition of SEMI’s flagship event, marked a significant step towards establishing India as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. The event was organized in partnership with Messe Muenchen India and the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA). The three-day event took place from September 11-13, 2024, at the India Exposition Mart Ltd (IEML) in Greater Noida, Delhi NCR. It showcased the country’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem, highlighting India’s growing influence in the global semiconductor industry. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the event brought together global leaders, industry experts, academia, and government officials to discuss and explore the future of chip manufacturing in India.
