Overview:
In FY 2023-24, the North Zone focused on modernizing and expanding water infrastructure to meet increasing demand and improve service delivery. The government allocated INR 60,000 Crore to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and INR 30,000 Crore to AMRUT 2.0. These funds were used to upgrade water treatment and distribution networks, enhance rural water supply, and address urban needs. Rajasthan, in particular, implemented new Desert Water Management initiatives to address its arid climate challenges. The state developed innovative water storage solutions and efficient irrigation systems, including new reservoirs and enhancing existing infrastructure. These initiatives significantly improved water efficiency in agriculture.
Meanwhile, in the Northeast Zone, the Economic Survey reported allocations of approximately INR 5,000 Crore for JJM and INR 2,500 Crore for AMRUT 2.0. Assam received about INR 1,200 Crore for upgrading water treatment facilities and expanding piped connections. Simultaneously, Tripura was allocated INR 500 Crore to improve rural water systems and infrastructure.
