The Finance Minister of Kolkata, Chandrima Bhattacharya, outlined the allocation of INR 1200 Crore towards the development of the 3.1 km-long Gangasagar Setu, during the announcement of the state budget for the year 2024-25, on Thursday, February 08.
The Gangasagar Setu will come up over the Muriganga River and connect LOT8 with Kachuberia at Sagar Island. It is anticipated to be completed within three years of commencement and will alleviate transportation challenges during the annual Gangasagar Mela Pilgrimage. The state government will allocate an estimated initial amount of INR 200 Crore for the development of this project.

The upcoming project is envisaged to provide better connectivity to the region as well as boost socio-economic strata along with the tourism potential of Kolkata. It is also aimed at improving the transportation logistics of the state, added the finance minister.
