In July 2023, the Karnataka Government has given land to Taiwanese electronic manufacturer Foxconn for the establishment of a phone manufacturing unit near Bengaluru.
In March, Foxconn had previously announced its plan to invest USD 968 Million in setting up a facility in the state, amidst neighboring Telangana’s intensive lobbying to attract investment from the company.
Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner of the Karnataka Commerce and Industries Department, confirmed that Foxconn has already taken possession of the land for the project in Karnataka. The phone manufacturing unit will be developed on a 300-acre area within the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), located near Bengaluru International Airport. The government’s statement issued in March says that the INR 8,000 Crore project would create 50,000 jobs.
