The Maharashtra Cabinet on Monday, March 11, approved the BMC’s (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) proposal for the construction of the Mumbai Central Park over an anticipated 300 Acres of land parcel. The land will be handed over to BMC through the state government.
The upcoming Mumbai Central Park will be developed on the lines of international standards for parks such as those in New York and London. Of the total 300 Acres, 175 Acres of land is of the coastal garden, reclaimed from the sea whereas the remaining 120 Acres is a part of the 211-acre Mahalaxmi Racecourse land.

BMC commissioner I S Chahal said the state cabinet has also approved the BMC proposal to renew the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) lease for 91 acres where the activities of RWITC will continue in the future. Of the total 211-acre plot at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, RWITC will be given a new lease of 91 acres of land for a further period of 30 years.
