Maharashtra Govt approves Metro 8; ‘Gold Line’ to directly connect Mumbai Airport with NMIA

The Maharashtra Government has approved the construction of Mumbai Metro Line 8, also known as the Gold Line. This new metro line will directly connect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The 35 Km corridor is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) Metro Master Plan.

Metro Line 8 will feature 25.8 Km of elevated tracks and 8.2 Km of underground sections, with 20 stations along its route. It will pass through key areas such as Kurla and Mankhurd, linking Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and a proposed Interstate Bus Terminal at Mankhurd. The project is estimated to cost 15,000 INR-Crore and will take approximately six years to complete.

The proposed project will be developed using the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Meanwhile, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is appointed as the nodal agency and will prepare a detailed project report. Once operational, Metro Line 8 will provide seamless access between the two airports, significantly improving airport connectivity and streamlining travel for passengers.
