The Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) has recently released a fresh tender for the long-awaited redevelopment of the New Delhi Railway Station. This marks the fourth time that the RLDA has announced a tender for this project. To ensure smooth progress, the land authority has engaged with numerous central and state departments and obtained their no-objection certificates.
In an effort to address the concerns of potential commercial partners, the RLDA has opted for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract instead of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The redesigned station will cover an expansive area of 1.5 Crore SqM and will be connected to Connaught Place by a pedestrian boulevard. A pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for July 20, with bidding concluding on July 29. The new plans emphasize the station’s multimodal nature and its convenience for transit.
The renovated station will feature a roof plaza that includes shopping areas and a food court. Additionally, the New Delhi station is already linked to the Delhi Metro, with the Ajmeri Gate entrance serving as an access point. This metro station provides direct connectivity to the Airport Metro Line. The redevelopment work will be executed in phases, with specific sections of the station being closed off for a duration of four months at a time.
