National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has floated the tender for the development of an elevated corridor on the Thoppur Ghat section on NH-44 (Salem-Dharmapuri-Bangalore National Highway) at an estimated cost of INR 775 Crore.
The proposed 6.6 km-long highway is aimed at reducing traffic and travel time, improving alignment, and providing safety measures for commuters. The last date for tender submission is January 30, 2024, and technical bid submissions will be opened on January 31. The scope of work involves the development, maintenance, and management of NH-44 including the Thoppur Ghat section on a hybrid annuity mode.

The Union and state governments had also allocated an estimated INR 7,75.41 Crore towards the reconstruction of the Thoppur Ghat section.
