The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to build 27 new roads in the state of Kerala, with a total project cost of INR 70,114 Crore. These road projects will encompass a distance of 960.27 km, including the development of greenfield highways, in addition to the ongoing construction of National Highway 66.
The central government will fully finance the expenses related to the construction of roads on newly acquired lands. Currently, the state is responsible for covering 25 percent of the land acquisition costs for national highways.

As part of the Bharatmala project, a total of 15 roads spanning 838.89 km, with an estimated cost of INR 66,627.11 Crore, will be constructed across different districts. Additionally, there are plans to build 12 roads connecting various ports, covering a total distance of 121.38 km, with a projected cost of INR 3,486.51 Crore.
Some of the major upcoming projects are:-
- Vizhinjam-Navaikulam Outer Ring Road
- Thiruvananthapuram-Angamaly Greenfield
- Kochi-Munnar Theni four-land Road
- Angamaly-Kundannur six-lane bypass
- Kollam-Shenkottai Greenfield, amongst many others.
The state needs to exempt GST on construction materials and should also consider giving away government-owned quarries.
